WELCOME
Hello everyone and welcome to my page about my Oberlin Football mentorship experience. My name is Mike Virgin and I am originally from Vermilion, OH, which most people call "A Great Town on a Great Lake". I am currently in my final semester as an MBA student and plan on graduating from Tiffin University in May 2015. This opportunity with Oberlin Football has been a great experience and helped me get a better understanding of Football Operations. Upon graduation I plan on seeking a football scouting position within the NFL.
OBERLIN FOOTBALL
Oberlin College is a private liberal arts college in Oberlin, Ohio, noteworthy for having been the first American institution of higher learning to regularly admit female and black students in addition to white males. Oberlin College is a school with great history and tradition both academically and athletically. Oberlin football is a team that is on the rise. Under the guidance of Head Coach Jay Anderson, the Oberlin football team brought in one of the largest recruiting classes in school history in 2014. The 2015 recruiting class has the same expectation.
WOrk plan
During my time with the Oberlin football team I worked primarily with scouting and recruiting. Although Jay Anderson was my supervisor, I worked closely with the recruiting coordinator/defensive backs coach David Kalgren. I would work 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and have a certain set of daily goals to meet. My initial duties with the team consisted of creating and formulating a recruiting database for the 2016 season. I would include both high school players and coaches with proper contact information to further help Oberlin football bring in the best prospects for the school. During my time here at Oberlin, I hope to get a better understanding of both the recruiting and scouting side of college football. Lastly, I was not compensated during my time at Oberlin.
